Sneak Peak – PSC introduces Medical Day Program in Danville, PA

Category: General

Pediatric Specialty Care is excited to announce a new pediatric medical day program in Danville, scheduled to open late Fall 2019. PSC Medical Day at Danville is a specially developed nursing program that meets the needs of medically fragile children, offering skilled nursing in a safe and nurturing environment, while promoting a child’s growth, development and socialization.

PSC Danville will support children with needs ranging from technology dependence of oxygen administration, feeding tubes, IVs, tracheostomy care and/or ventilator management to medication administration, diabetic protocols and seizure management. Children will receive care for up to 12 hours per day (6:30 a.m to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday), from a highly dedicated, consistent nursing team (including RNs, LPNs, child care workers; the Nursing ratio is 1:6; the Child Care worker ratio is 1:3). Children will enjoy developmentally and age appropriate activities and programs. PSC Medical Day at Danville welcomes children ages 6 weeks to Age 8. (For children older that age 8, please contact PSC’s Admissions team.) The space will blend the amenities of a traditional day care program – child-sized furnishings and accessories, gym space and a wheelchair accessible playground, with state-of-the-art medical equipment for technology dependent children.

In collaboration with the child’s primary care physician, an individualized care plan is developed for each child. Ongoing assessments and daily summaries enhance communication between PSC staff and parents/guardians. In addition, PSC Medical Day at Danville will have a Medical Director to provide program supervision and oversight. Meals are provided, including lunch and snacks, with accommodation as needed for special diets.

The services offered by PSC Medical Day are funded by insurance, both commercial plans and Medicaid. Services must be prescribed by the child’s primary care physician, and the child must be medically and/or technology dependent, and the child’s primary caretakers must be employed or attending school. PSC Medical Day is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC).
